Best Dark Sky Replacements for iOS 16 in 2023: With only days left, the popular Dark Sky weather app will soon be no more. As much as we’ll miss it, there are plenty of viable replacements, including Apple’s own.
Check out Apple’s built-in weather app, even if you prefer Dark Sky. Since its original barebones form, it has seen extensive improvement, with most of that enhancement attributable to the now-lamented Dark Sky.
Apple has improved the look and feel of its weather app, but the most notable changes are the ones it has made by absorbing features that were previously popular in Dark Sky. Notifications similar to those first created by Dark Sky (rain starting in 7 minutes, ending in 23 minutes) are now available in Apple’s Weather app.
It’s important to keep in mind that, while Weather and Dark Sky both provide this degree of detail, there is no difference in how accurate either is. If you live in a region where Dark Sky was consistently inaccurate, you can expect the same from Apple’s Weather app.

However, the same functionality is now available in Apple’s default weather app, which has also undergone a stunning redesign that provides a great deal of data in a very compact way. Changing the channel to Weather probably isn’t the worst thing you could do.

There are, however, other options provided by third parties, at least one of which has been quite active recently.
Dark Sky users, CARROT weather reports
As AppleInsider reports, CARROT Weather app creator Brian Mueller has included what he terms an “inline interface” for Dark Sky users to feel at home.
It contains a tiny radar map, data point selector, and inline daily details, and its vertical style is similar to Dark Sky’s, he explains. “Users need only go to the Layout Gallery to add the Inline layout; after that, they can further tailor the layout to produce a CARROT interface that is just right for them.”
In addition, CARROT Weather is now offering a discount to new iPhone users who also download and use Dark Sky.
During the onboarding process, new users who have Dark Sky installed on their iPhones will receive a one-time discount of 25% off Premium Ultra, bringing the annual price down to $29.99 (with a 7-day free trial) from $39.99.
Please be aware that while Carrot Weather is free to use, premium subscriptions are available for $14.99 per month or $29.99 per year to unlock more features.
Ventusky
Thanks to its clever “weather layer” technology, Ventusky makes a wealth of data readily available. Temperature, temperature anomalies, cloud cover, radar, snow cover, dew point, air quality, and more can all be conveniently accessed.

It also has a prediction widget and a radar widget, both of which come in a variety of sizes.
Priced at $3.99, you may purchase Ventusky.
Predictions about the Weather on the Underground
Weather Underground is one of the best weather apps available on the App Store, and its users can keep tabs on the weather wherever they happen to be.
In order to provide precise hyperlocal forecasts, Weather Underground collects data from over 250,000 weather stations it owns and runs it through its own proprietary forecast algorithm.
Although there are advertisements on Weather Underground, it is still free to use. There is an annual subscription to remove commercials for $1.99, or there is a monthly subscription for premium features for $19.99 or $3.99.
Geographical Climate
Geometric Weather is a top pick if you’re searching for simple and lightweight weather software. It gives you the current temperature, the air quality, a forecast for the next two weeks, and local alerts for extreme weather.

Geometric Weather, like most paid apps, uses AccuWeather rather than the more popular OpenWeatherMap. They say that AccuWeather is more reliable than OpenWeatherMap-based apps.
The only catch is that you can only get Geometric Weather as a TestFlight app, even though it’s free and ad-free. However, there is a public version available on the Play store for Android users, so hopefully, it will make its way to the iOS App Store soon.
Many inquire
Is there something I can use instead of black Sky?
Geometric Weather, which is both free and Open Source, is a great replacement. Dark Sky, Windy, Forecasting, OpenWeather, and The Weather Channel are all excellent weather applications.
Which one, Darksky or AccuWeather, do you think is superior, and why?
In this ForecastWatch study, AccuWeather, which provides its forecasts to the public for free via its popular apps and AccuWeather.com, placed #1 in both high and low-temperature forecast accuracy, while Dark Sky, a paid weather app, ranked last in both.
Does this mean that Dark Sky is no longer available as an app?
After the acquisition, Dark Sky continued to be sold separately as a weather app, but its creators announced earlier this year that the iOS version of the app would be discontinued as of December 31, 2022.
Which Apple app takes the role of Dark Sky?
Apple Weather now includes Dark Sky’s functionality. High-resolution radar, push notifications, and hourly forecasts for the next 10 days are just some of the features that Apple Weather provides for your precise location.
As to why the night sky is becoming daytime, we have no idea.
Dark Sky’s forecasting algorithm has been incorporated into Apple’s own Weather app, therefore the app will no longer be available as of January 1, 2023, as indicated by a notification that appears on the app’s home screen. This is not unexpected but nonetheless bad news.

Is Darksky an Apple product?
In March 2020, Apple bought Dark Sky and began incorporating many of its features into the Weather app for iOS and macOS. Apple discontinued Dark Sky for Android in August 2020, despite previously claiming there were no intentions to do so with the iOS app.
If Apple is using Darksky, then why?
It looks like Apple will follow through with its promise to retire the Dark Sky weather app at year’s end. The Dark Sky app’s support will stop on January 1, 2023, according to a new pop-up notice that will appear if you launch the app today.
How much of an investment is Dark Sky?
Self-reporting and individualized alerts are just two of the new features in this updated weather app, which also provides a sharper emphasis on the most relevant data. It’s an excellent option and among the very best weather apps available for the iPhone.
Should I install the iOS 16 beta?
Most users will update to iOS 16 for the plethora of new features, such as the ability to personalize and add widgets to the Lock Screen, iCloud Shared Photo Library, Passkeys, Shared Tab Groups, and improvements to Live Text, Visual Look Up, and Dictation.
