Discover the game’s release date, gameplay, story, and location in this comprehensive guide to Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy Release Date
The release of Hogwarts Legacy has been pushed back again, to February 10 of next year. The game’s release date has been pushed back from 2021 to 2022 due to delays. The PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC will all be able to play the game upon its release. It is presently unknown what graphical variations may be expected between these generations, although it is safe to assume that Hogwarts Legacy will appear better on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Avalanche Software is creating the game, and Warner Bros. is publishing it. Games. Since Avalanche Software previously worked on Cars 3: Driven to Win, Hogwarts Legacy represents a significant expansion in scope for the studio.
Hogwarts Legacy didn’t get much of a spotlight in 2021; neither E3 nor Sony’s PlayStation Showcase featured it.
Millie A. is a video game data analyst. promised additional Hogwarts Legacy footage at December’s The Game Awards, according to a tweet. She may have intimate knowledge, given that she mentioned a Wolverine-related IP years before Insomniac’s Wolverine ever had a trailer. There was no truth to this, unfortunately. Since surprises and trailers are often canceled at the last minute, this doesn’t prove that she was wrong.
As general manager of Warner Bros., Rachel Wakely hinted in an interview with Toy World Magazine that Hogwarts Legacy would debut after Fantastic Beasts and the Secrets of Dumbledore. It’s improbable that the game will debut in early 2022, given that the film is premiering in April.
It’s unlikely that an artbook for a video game would be published before the game itself was launched, but the Rowling Library has recently discovered that Insight Editions’ “The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy” will be released on September 6.
Hogwarts Legacy will continue in March, according to Twitter user AccountNGT; this is only a rumor, but we hope it’s true.
Hogwarts Legacy gameplay
Sony gave us our second glimpse at Hogwarts Legacy during their PlayStation 5 presentation. The 2018 leak gave us our first look at the game. Below is the original trailer for those who haven’t seen it yet.
There are a couple of things to keep an eye out for in this trailer. We get a glimpse of the in-game character creator, wherein the appearance of the player’s face, skin tone, eye color, and body type may all be customized. We get a glimpse of the game’s potential brutality as well, with the protagonist bursting through a door and impaling enemies.
A couple of lines of text in the character creation menu reading “[Menu Face]” and “[Menu SkinColor]” suggest this video was never intended for public consumption and was instead an internal demo used to demonstrate the game’s progress. Since then, it has become murky to determine what has and has not altered.
Thanks to a Hogwarts Legacy announcement presentation in mid-September, we now have concrete information about the game’s gameplay and location, eliminating the need for any further speculation over the leaked footage.
Surprisingly, the new video is very much like the last one, however, it gives us a more cinematic glimpse of the universe and what we may expect. It entices players to concoct potions, tame monsters, learn arcane magic, and listen to lectures given by some of the world’s most powerful witches and wizards. While you can ride your broomstick around, it has been revealed that quidditch will not be available in Hogwarts Legacy.
A skill tree for Hogwarts: Legacy was built by a fan on the r/HarryPotterGame subreddit. The runic language at the bottom of each tree is also reminiscent of the skill tree in Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order.
This fan-made skill tree doesn’t have fully-realized versions of all its abilities, but the one we can see allows the user to essentially become invisible by changing color to match their surroundings. To feel more invested in one’s character in Hogwarts Legacy, I’m crossing my fingers for a deep skill tree.
On March 17, Sony presented a State of Play dedicated to Hogwarts Legacy, during which they revealed a wealth of new footage. We saw the character creation screen and the system by which players would be assigned to a “home.” Even before the game is out, you may get set up by linking your Hogwarts Legacy account with your Harry Potter Fan Club account. Classes in areas like charms, herbology, defense against the dark arts, and more will be required of players.
In addition to attending courses, players will have free reign to explore Hogwarts on their own time. As for previously unseen landmarks, the trailer assures us that we will have plenty of opportunities to visit them.
All sorts of status effects and in-game activities can be performed with the game’s spells and battle system. If they don’t want to get hurt by these kinds of attacks, players should get good at using shield magic. The teaser gives us a comprehensive look at the many fighting styles and mechanics available in Hogwarts Legacy. In addition, there are a large number of talent points available for use in enhancing one’s spells.
Plus, in The Room of Requirement, adventurers can grow crops, refine existing potions, and create brand new ones. In certain games, players can even raise their fantastic creatures. The player is given complete creative control over the look and feel of this area. Players aren’t limited to the confines of Hogwarts when it comes to gathering resources or venturing into uncharted territories. As the academic year progresses, the game will reflect variations in the time of day and weather.
Although Sony has been quiet regarding Hogwarts Legacy recently, they did publish a PlayStation Blog explaining how the game would make use of the DualSense. Haptic feedback gives your spellcasting an authentic sensation by vibrating the right side of your controller in response to the movement of your wand. The player will have constant access to haptic stimulation, whether they are concocting potions or soaring through the clouds. Additionally, the DualSense light will glow the color of the chosen residence.
Hogwarts Legacy story
In Hogwarts Legacy, the player’s freedom of choice will take center stage, whether that decision is to use their amazing powers for good in the world or to indulge their darker impulses. The game, it seems, will have a personable protagonist who discovers an “old secret” that could end all life on Earth.
When the player finally gets accepted to Hogwarts, they’ll find out they know more about “Ancient Magic” than their classmates. It’s hard to say what this will lead to, but it may mean a huge open world with lots of optional content.
In a now-deleted tweet (preserved by Comic Book), DC Allen reportedly hints at the option to kill in the game. Players may have access to black magic, as he also says that “a lot of evil is occurring in the wizarding world.”
J.K. Rowling “is not directly involved in the design of the game” and “it is not a new story from J.K. Rowling,” but she will still benefit from the game’s sales and attention.
According to Jason Schreier, “trans-inclusive character creation, with the body, voice, and gender (“witch/wizard”) all separated” is coming to Hogwarts Legacy, and he explains that “some members of the Hogwarts Legacy dev team had been pushing hard for this, uncomfortable with Rowling’s position and rattled by the effects she has had on a game they’ve put a lot into.”
Autodesk showed us new Hogwarts Legacy movie footage and character design stills at their annual Vision Series conference (opens in a new tab). During this time, a new Hogwarts Legacy cutscene was shown, consisting of less than a minute of film. In this scenario, the player and a companion watch as a Hippogryph is seemingly abused and taken away behind a gate before the companion runs into the building to intervene.
We were also given access to some fresh artwork from the character design process. A symbol on the top right of the selections that seem to imply a house selection suggests that players will determine their house from the character creation page. What will happen when the gamer reaches the sorting phase is an intriguing unknown.
I’m crossing my fingers that choosing your residence involves more than just a checkbox at character creation. That’s good, but it won’t exactly set you at the moment.
Hogwarts Legacy setting
Players of Hogwarts Legacy will be able to delve into numerous fascinating aspects of the renowned institution. Players will find themselves in an alternate version of the 1800s, and their adventures could span decades. The game’s scope extends well beyond Hogwarts, with players getting to know several famous wizards and witches in their own right.
Seeing the store where Harry Potter bought his first wand (in Diagon Alley) would be a dream come true. When I was a kid, places like this seemed otherworldly, so the idea of exploring them in a virtual environment sounds like a dream come true, especially if the architecture and music are accurate representations of the real thing.
It’s expected that Hogwarts will serve as a central center where players can freely roam and engage with a wide variety of NPCs. I’m crossing my fingers that the game has a loosely Persona 5-like structure, wherein the player gets to know the world’s inhabitants and decides which magic-training classes to take to advance their character’s abilities.
The mood of the Harry Potter movies has made them a cultural phenomenon. If Hogwarts Legacy is going to succeed, it needs to nail that feeling of innocence and magic. In the months leading up to the game’s release, we’ll find out more information about it, so be sure to check back here for updates. More information about the game is expected to be released in the lead-up to its release in the months of 2022.
Hogwarts Legacy pre-order bonuses
Pre-order bonuses for Hogwarts Legacy have not been announced publicly, but Reddit user u/opalelement dug into the source code for the official website and discovered numerous references to pre-order bonuses, digital deluxe bonuses, and digital-only goodies.
The complete list includes the Thestral Mount, the Dark Arts Cosmetic Pack, the Dark Arts Battle Arena, the Dark Arts Garrison Hat, the Kelpie Robe, the Steel Case, and the Floating Ancient Magic Wand with Book, but we can’t be sure which items go in which category (these last two seem like they would be part of a deluxe edition). A deluxe edition would also likely have early access to the game for three days.
