The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm, the purported successor to the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, is slated to debut in the near future. Some information on the forthcoming mobile platform has leaked out, and now there’s the word of a possible second version of the same. Everything you need to know is listed here.
Another Variant of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Is On the Way!
The “ultra high frequency” iteration of the rumored Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform would feature a clock speed between 3.4 and 3.5GHz, according to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station (via Weibo). This is going to be significantly faster than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1’s 3.2GHz speed.
In addition, the GPU performance supposedly improves to the point where it can “beat Apple’s original A-series chipset.” The recently released A16 Bionic chipset appears to be the relevant example here since it offers up to promises of 40% quicker performance and 50% better GPU.
It is possible that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 will be the successor to the current Snapdragon 8 chip, however, this is just conjectural. The new chipset may be built on TSMC’s 4nm process technology and will reportedly use a 1+2+2+3 quad-cluster design.
One Kryo Prime processor with an ARM Cortex-X3 core, four Kryo Performance processors with Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A710 cores, and three Kryo Efficiency processors with Cortex-A510 cores are all possible. It’s also possible that an Adreno 740 graphics processing unit is included.
When the Snapdragon Summit takes place on November 14, we can expect to see the debut of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. With the high-end Snapdragon mobile platform typically debuting in December, this release will come earlier than planned.
