The fourth and final season of Yellowstone, the highest-rated cable drama, has just concluded on the Paramount Network. However, the series’ future is still in doubt. Season 6 of the popular western may be its last. Two of the show’s creators and star Kevin Costner have hinted that it’s time to say goodbye.

The ‘Yellowstone’ season 4 finale was seen by more than 10 million viewers

It was no surprise that when Yellowstone premiered in Big Sky country in 2018, it was an instant hit with viewers. Many rural areas have been using it since day one, even though it hasn’t made a splash in the big cities. Fans have been flocking to the show ever since its season 1 finale drew 4.5 million viewers.

At the end of the fourth season on January 2, the show averaged 10.4 million viewers on Paramount. In comparison to most broadcast network dramas, those are sizable numbers. As a result, viewers from both large and small television markets can now tune in.

Taylor Sheridan signed a massive deal with ViacomCBS

Sheridan signed a $200 million deal with ViacomCBS to produce at least five new shows over three years because of the success of Yellowstone.

Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel 1883 is now available on Paramount+ thanks to the company’s MTV Entertainment Studios. This was the most-watched program in the history of the young streaming service and the highest-rated cable debut since 2015

Meanwhile, the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff 6666, which takes place at the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, was set up during season 4 of Yellowstone On Paramount+, Sheridan has the Jeremy Renner starrer Mayor of Kingstown. In addition, Sylvester Stallone’s mob drama Kansas City and a show about West Texas oil workers, Landman, are set to premiere shortly.

The ‘Yellowstone’ creator hints the ending is near

Yellowstone is no longer Sheridan’s primary focus because he is working on several other projects at the same time. In an interview, the former Sons of Anarchy cast member said he has more Dutton family stories to tell, but the show will not continue indefinitely.

Despite the numerous shows currently airing or in development, Sheridan may still be working on more projects that focus on America’s rural regions. It was stated by the writer and director that he has no boundaries. For the most part, he has spent most of his life in the west, where he is attracted to its “sparseness”.

“I enjoy spending time outside. ‘ I enjoy painting with my camera, and it’s not often that I get to see the vastness of this country. That is what interests me the most at the moment,” Sheridan said.
